Today was hot and humid, and that reflects acclimatizing. I heard the sound of thunder, but was in denial. The weather quickly changed from sunny with clear skies to storm and overcast.

Now might be as good a time as any to consider what happens in Afghanistan. What the military commitment to Afghanistan worth the cost and loss of lives? Have we in general ever really cared about what happens to the people in Afghanistan, Yemen and elsewhere subject to murderous and cruel drone attacks.

Now it is starting to feel like summer, and that might be a portent. We seemed to have transitioned from one year to another. The actual year is a cultural artifact. While there may be different Buddhist calendars this year, at least in Thailand, is 2558.

On Boxing Day, Dexter and Hannah were taken out for a walk. They when out on Christmas Day, although some other days were missed. However, it is true that on Sunday, “one walks his dog(s) – “Le dimanche on promene son chien(s)”.  Our meandering is more progressive digressions, than promenade.

If it is true that everything is transient, then good fortune will pass in due course. There is a suggestion, and it is difficult to what credence some intelligence might have that much of the area will be converted to housing. Meanwhile Dexter and Hannah live in the present.

I don’t know anything about civilian non-armed intervention, or how it works and in what circumstances, but it seems to me in regard to the recent hostage event in Martin Place, such an option might have been very useful.

That was then, and now is now. Time seems to have moved on. Dexter and Hannah have memory, but seem to live, as far as I can tell in the present.

Every day for the past week has involved thunder, lightning and rain. Fortunately, these events have arrived in the evening and here we have not borne the full brunt, including hail, as has occurred elsewhere.

MORALITY AND REFUGEE POLICY December 5, 2014

Green Senators spoke with emotion on the treatment of refugees in the last evenings debate on the amendment to the legislation. The debate, such as it is, was delivered to a near empty Senate chamber. This is a moral case, and as democratic citizens we have to take responsibility, and hold those who presume to rule us to account.

This week I was going to step up and introduce some video clips, but at the moment do not have the time to learn how to splicing and dicing required. The camera work requires a bit of practice. And then if Dexter and Hannah were on the team working together that would help.

Yesterday is always embedded in today. Often photos do not appear to recognize what has gone before. I am not sure what Dexter and Hannah remember what happened days and weeks ago. However, they always seem to be keen to get going, and they remember things that I do not perceive.

There were no fracas this week. I have to follow up on the outcome of last week’s  incident. We did meet the odd dog and owner, but Dexter and Hannah hardly reacted. They each have a new additional lead, but as time goes by things deteriorate.

The  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is an interesting institution within which climate scientists from around the globe work together.  What is possible for science, remains impossible for politics. I notice that the report is dedicated to the memory of  Stephen H. Schneider 1945 – 2010.

The Abbott Government finds untrammelled enthusiasm, alacrity and “hang the cost” to join the coalition of the killing  in the sky over Iraq in stark contrast with a stubborn disinclination and outright refusal to assist with the humanitarian crisis caused by the ebola epidemic in West Africa. What gives?

Most stories end with sadness, and those that don’t have not yet been fully told. So it is the case that Dexter and Hannah are going around the same path mostly daily. At some point this will not continue.
