Sometimes I go down to the fruit shop, about half a kilometer away, with a back pack, and walk back carrying about 12.5 kilograms. I broke out into a sweat last time, so it seems I am doing more work than on the dog walks.

The Boston Marathon bombing has given rise to inevitable conspiracy theories. Inevitable, because the internet provides greater opportunity to call into question the official story as it unfolds, and because there is an entrenched suspicion of government in general in the US, and in particular of the “leviathan security state”. However, the pressing issue is of motivation, and what it is that gives rise to barbaric and cruel behavior.

It is strange to reflect now that the decisive issue, a major turning point, in the the republican debate during the Referendum was whether the head of state was to be appointed by the parliament or the people.

Not that I know much, if anything about economics, but it seems to me that there was the Thatcherite rhetoric and an underlying economic problem of stagflation that was not supposed to happen and the recipe was monetarism(1).
