I had not realized that the UK Coalition Government was proposing to treble fees for university students. Nor is it surprising that the report in The Independent concentrates on the incidents of violent protest around the Houses of Parliament.

It seems that the British were attempting to impose a blockade on the new Republic, or at least interfering with maritime commerce. The new Republic accurately perceived these to be acts of war. A contemporary reference will spring to mind.

My impression is that the mainstream media is not celebrating the release of the insider diplomatic information by Wikileaks. And sadly, it is superfluous to ask why that might be.
