FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG: GOING HOME July 11, 2009

Sasha and Dexter have memories longer than the road that stretches ahead. So they are going home.

They are taking their time about it. Something might be missed.

The Beatles provided my inspiration this week:

Home might have changed – will Dexter be leaving home now?

Somethings don’t seem to change. We regularly stop at the knoll to sit down and take in the view. So the challenge is to see things anew:

Taking a detour means we can sit on the grass and look at the sky. Sasha and Dexter came into view:

Standing around, but having fun it seems:

Then home where Dexter checks out the new fence (which Sasha had done earlier). Fences are the intersection where dog environmental awareness meets human awareness:

Putting up the fence meant that the dogs did not have the same freedom of movement, although again Dexter saw the opportunity with open gates to head for freedom, but with no problems.

We will again this week, at this late hour, head over to Modulator and see who else is onboard Friday Ark.

Speaking of memories, I love Australia. What a vast and beautiful country. I spent nearly a year in Australia. The dogs are great. Loved the song. Thanks!

The fence could have been a bone of contention. Our neighbour rents and the owner now lives in Melbourne. We can talk by telephone, which is probably best, or by email. We have a few other matters that will need to be sorted out between us. Beneath the fence there is a wall, and the question arises as to who is responsible for its maintenance, now in bad repair.

The wide expanses of the continent are curtailed by the escarpment. We have a strong sense of locality, but the good thing is the world is connected, so we have some level of consciousness of what others are experiencing.

Sasha has no known pedigree, but Dexter claims an American affiliation.

Please don’t tell me about property isssues with neighbors. Having houses to manage issues arise from time to time. But my partner and I have been blessed so far to work things out. We had a fence issue last year that could have gotten out of control without some wise negotiations. It ended up well. Best to you with that.

There is no doubt that Australians have a deep sense of independence, for its location alone. But I found the people though “rugged” very kind and helpful. I thought the women were just as “rough” as the men no matter how dainty they appeared, even those in Sydney. This was nice to see. It was a kind of independence that I appreciated.

This line made me smile:

“Sasha has no known pedigree, but Dexter claims an American affiliation”

There is something there about the humanity of us all.

We hope that the positive jibes continue, and constructively talk about the problems when they are arise, although the conversation is at a distance.

Sasha’s breed really is a puzzle. She really likes water, so I think that is a clue. Dexter requires firm handling and foresight, yet he is a sensitive dog, and a continuing lesson to think the best rather than a worst.

Best in everything, wmmbb!
