FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG – “MUTTS” AND OTHER MATTERS January 24, 2009

Our household has long adopted the policy of adopting stray dogs as pets.

That stray dog policy is how the freedom seeking Cooper found his way into our front yard. We had to save him from his own sense of adventure. (I suspect now the reason that Cooper was getting out was that he was hungry, and there were various houses he could go for a feed.) I could of course always appreciate the immediate, but the policy is founded in a more informed sensibility than mine. Yet while Cooper has made our house his “second” home, although he has been also adopted by others, this accommodation is not without tensions.

Thus the question arises of two into three – won’t go?

Sasha in terms of her distinctive breed, remains something of a mystery:

In honour of Sasha, and in the interest of throwing salt into the pot, the song caused a stir on its release, Blue Minx sing “Melting Pot”:

The “dog management” around here is necessarily a bit haphazard. In many ways, Dexter is admirably suited to the climatic conditions, but his good qualities require both care, patience and attention to his inbred proclivities:

Occasion should be given to those of greater sensibility, and here Maria Callas fits the bill (from Madama Butterfly – She’s a  “Queen” of song):

Cooper, despite his obvious Stafford Terrier credentials, is closer to his wolf ancestors than the others. He ululates(howling with a rising and falling pitch) sometimes at night:

But who said three dogs cannot get along, even if two are easier to manage:

Finally here is a song for Cooper, and all inspired with his spirit. If I am not mistaken Sasha and Dexter are singing along with the chorus:

(I liked this clip better.)

With our tongues out, and our tails moving, at this late hour we are running to catch Friday Ark, at Modulator, before they sets sail.

It sounds that Cooper is fortunate to have wandered into your yard. Yes three is definitely more work than two but bless your heart for doing what you are doing.

I learned a new word here today… ululates.. I think I will take it with me.

Thanks Colleen.

I have not seen Cooper for days. The last I knew was my neighbour asked me to check on him, when his owner Glenn was burning stuff in the backyard. Later somebody called the Fire Brigade (which is fair enough). That day last week was very hot plus we had a blustery wind.

By the way Colleen when I am looking at your photos, it seems to me there is a “d” missing from the title of your blog. Sill in the Canadian winter, a refrigerator is probably not essential.

Nice, wmmbb. Loved your opening and musical selections, especially the great Maria Callas.

Thank you Judith.

I shall pass on your appreciation of Maria Callas.
