Same happened to me I ended up downloading a clean install disc on my second computer and installed fresh with a hard drive format.

the original upgrade on a windows 7 pro worked alright but be a I like to tinker with settings learning about everything and locked myself out and it refused all the passwords I thought I had set it for.

The fresh install works better than the upgrade so long as you upgrade first MicroSoft take a fingerprint of your system so you don’t need to register it it happens automatically when fresh installing just ignore the prompts and select later etc.

It’s not a bad system combination of Windows 7 and 8.1 few privacy issues with it snooping on you but everything does and many can be turned off although the install sets them on when you install the system.

Update my main machine next now I am up to speed on it YOU DID REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR DATA FILES FIRST ON A SEPARATE DISC OR FLASHDRIVE I HOPE.

After constant blue screens crashes and using the virus checker to kept logged in, I have somehow got to the situation where I can log on normally – crossed fingers and so on. Now I have to figure out to get you tube video sounds. The explanations seem excessively complicated and I am not making progress. Tomorrow, I will make some phone calls and see how that goes.

Stephen, in answer to your final question I did not. Just took a leap into the dark to see what would happen. I think I had underlying problems with my manufacturers settings do to my interference. I was very wrong to believe that changing the operating system would change all the drivers.
