FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG: ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER November 30, 2013

The rain has not stopped it has returned. But, it is not quite raining cats and dogs – although that seems to be the case in general.

We all piled into the car last Saturday. Dexter and Hannah were heading to the Vets to get their regular heart worm tablets, and a check-up. Their weight was acceptable and nothing else was obviously wrong. The Vet made an interesting comment about Hannah when I mentioned she came from Wagga. He suggested that she might have been bred for the hunting of wild pigs. He seemed to thing she was lucky she did not suffer the consequences of that activity. It turns out that pigs were believed onboard with the First Fleet. They accompanied the human cargo to Botany Bay.

There was a game of Rugby Union, played in Dublic, that caught my attention. It was close, and Ireland were unlucky to lose. At one point when it looked as if Ireland were about to win, the crowd started singing, “The Fields of Athenry”. There is a connection, since Botany Bay is not too far away. The tune, notwithstanding, it is a sad song – or so it seemed to me. That led to “Fallen Flowers” – “If I could live my life again. . .”

Now the grass is growing and green – but that wont last. Dexter and Hannah seem to find more scents to follow – and they get to drink in the creek. And this week, I was the one who picked up the leech, I did not pay attention to, and it left its mark in blood.

I find it difficult making decisions about which photos to include:

Perhaps not “The Fields of Athenry”, although Botany Bay is not too far:

Sometimes what is most important, which can only incidentally be caught in a photo, can be lost sight of. Steve McDonald sings “Fallen Flowers”:

Note: The Battle of Halidon Hill occurred on 19 July 1333. It was fought between the Scots and English. It amazes me how song can recreate the reality of the long dead, and allow their humanity to be revived.

……………………………..

We will make an effort this week to get into the correction department on Friday Ark.

Picasa was used to organize the photos – and they follow the usual pattern and path.
