DUCK POND

HOMELAND VOICES

I do not know what the Northern Territory and the Federal Government are up to in apparently seeking to dispossess Indigenous People from their country.

At the very least given the tragic history of ethnic cleansing and destruction of cultural values there ought be occasion to pause, whatever the problems may be perceived to be. It seems to me if you want people to stand on their feet; don’t take their human dignity from them, or their connection with nature and land. We need indigenous cultural values and insights. We all have to cherish the land and environment if we are to survive, and yes, live better as reason posits.

Get Up has the video:

This campaign is an opportunity to offer dignity. We should recognize the importance of the social technology of community, cultural values and democracy.

So too, the local democracy of the people of Wollongong should be restored in full and immediately.

ELSEWHERE:

Patrick Dodson, at New Matilda, identifies the policy implications of the Northern Territory Intervention as dispossession and assimilation. I suspect he is right, and furthermore in the wash we all lose, Indigenous and Non-Indigenous alike.
