Todd Domke at The Boston Globe has a several suggestions as to who would make an ideal running mate for McCain. The criteria seem fine as far they go, but surely the idea would be for one candidate to optimal. There has to be trade offs, which opens the field to other candidates not mentioned. Job selection what an interesting field and how relevant to the roles of President and Vice President (post Cheney)?

Tom Domke’s piece is more interesting than I first realized. He comes up with a list of his top ten:

TOP 10: Mark Sanford 70, Elizabeth Dole 71, Sam Brownback 73, Chris Cox 75, Kay Bailey Hutchison 76, Colin Powell 78, Mike Huckabee 79, Condoleezza Rice 80, Charlie Crist 81, Tim Pawlenty 85.

Of those that I know on this list I would have reservations about Powell, Rice and Huckabee, and inclined toward Dole, although I think her age might be a critical factor. Is there a younger Elizabeth Dole on offer?
