Here is our home, our egos entwined

Overhead the shadow of time spins like the Sun

Next door children play as if there was no yesterday

And the youngest know no other place to be.

Ernie who lived around the corner now lives in a nursing home

His former presence is empty as it is silent

It remains for now his testament 

The sentence of time will soon cast his spirit aside.

Dexter and Hannah take familiarity for granted

Dexter is not the dog he used to be

Hannah has taken to biting his ear

Canines can be so indifferent!

The revolving Earth deems each day

Spinning sun and stars appear without end

So we go out most days

To mark our temporal journey.

Are we simply shadows of this plot?

And short-term beings it seems

Truth repeated again as for those who lived before

“We will be home for a little while.”
