If the rule of thumb that applies to elections in Australia applies then it seems on the basis of lack of bipartisan agreement and general public engagement the Alternative Vote referendum will be lost in Britain.

Care has to be exercised in judging human actors, but judge them we must. Democracy, for example, is not only a social technology for decision making, but implicitly suggests that power be accountable, albeit in reality concentrated in free hands.

The days are less sunnier now than a few weeks ago (in the southern hemisphere). It is getting darker earlier. Sometimes what looks like possible rain does not fall. The result now I have a camera I am not taking as many photos.

Reporting based on emails sent from Bahrain beggars belief. Not only have doctors been rounded up, but one doctor was arrested during an operation. This is the level of behavior that warrants outrage, if not a bombing campaign to protect civilians.

The Guardian reports Nato has sent a British and French advisory team to Benghazi to advise the anti-Gaddafi forces on “intelligence gathering, logistics and communications”. In the meanwhile bombing continues to protect civilians.

Long story short: peace is not an option. That at least is what the proponents of the Libyan intervention argue, despite the fact that the African Union delegation, led by South African President Zuma appears to have got Muammur Gaddafi’s approval for a ceasefire.

There has been some talk recently about the lack of vision in Federal Politics. I suspect it is the case there is not such thing as a national vision any more, at least if we are going to seriously address global issues such as anthropogenic global warming.
