BREAKING THE GAZA BLOCKADE? May 28, 2010

Various ships from mostly European countries, and importantly Turkey, will rendezvous in the Mediterranean carrying medical supplies and other provisions in an attempt to break the blockade imposed on the 1.5
million people of Gaza by Israel.
The anticipation, totally contrary to International Law, but with the tacit support of the Obama Administration, the Israelis will meet this flotilla with military and naval force, and place the people on board in detention centres. Israel is a rogue state, so by definition has no regard for international public opinion. The interception of Turkish vessels in international water, or otherwise areas that Israel can claim no direct jurisdiction will further complicate relationships in the Middle East.
The reason arises, aside from the obvious humanitarian motivations, why does not the Israeli Government allow the aid to be delivered? Of course, the Israelis suggested that the aid could be off-loaded at an Israeli port and they would then truck it to Gaza. So reasonable!
Much could be, and has been said, on the barbaric cruelty of Israel, and strangely that Government seems to escape censor. It is a strange kind of apartheid religious state, that does not live by the tenets of it’s religion.

Al Jazeera reports,(via Juan Cole on Facebook) highlighting the dilemma faced by Israel. If there is a choice or violence or nonviolence it seems that the Israeli ego requires violence, a not unfamiliar decision.
