FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG – A DAY IN THE LIFE January 10, 2009

For some beings among us, it literally is a dog’s life, and just sometimes we can catch glimpses, fragments of future memories, that it can be a very a nice life indeed.

It is up to we humans to see the dark clouds on the horizon. This week, for example, we have heard and seen the news of the tragic account of dogs attacking young children resulting in death and injury. Our politician react in righteousness, rather than realizing that problems occur out of ignorance. I know how difficult it is to perceive dog behavior, although it is taken for granted that any intelligent person can readily read dog behavior.

The narrative here as you might observe is top of the mind, and never let us believe that a picture tells the story, but I cling to the thought that just sometimes there were moments of happiness, existential joy. Oliver Wendal Holmes is quoted by Ken Burns in his Civil War epic saying that as a young man he “lived life to the top”, which of course is how life should be lived.

Here is a weekly round-up. Sasha and Dexter were joined by the energetic and determined Cooper.

Sometimes things run smoothly, as in a common direction:

And then I go into a dream, which reminds me:

Dogs are sometimes innocent of human purposes, if as one suspects at times sceptical, but perhaps never cynical. Cooper is destined for a long car drive to Western Australia, but at this time his concern was directed in his immediate field:

At the arbitrary end of the path, there is a threesome for future reference:

Dogs too, get to enjoy “the sweet, smiling life”. ( The words of the troubadour and poet as the memory of the Jerusalem slaughter of July 1099 was retold)

Cooper and Dexter in the sunshine:

Sasha and Cooper:

The cliche is perhaps appalling, even as the intended meaning is sincere, but then let me rejoin to the genius of Beethoven:

Even for dogs, every life is a separate journey:

The hour is late, but if we hurry we might catch Friday Ark, the crew and the passengers, at Modulator, before the tide turns.

I am truly saddened to read the accounts of this dog attack. I think people sometimes forget that a dog, no matter how tame or how obedient is still an animal and should never be trusted completely when around small children.

Sasha, Dexter and Cooper seem to enjoy each others companionship.

Thanks for the comment, Colleen.

The wisest course is to take precautions with respect to dogs and small children.

Coopers is sometimes dropped into our place, and makes it his home.
