Now this website certainly looks interesting, when it finally gets beyond the teething stage. Every time I plugged my family name in, I get a error message that the database is busy. The name search is now working.

The polls will be interesting, but it seems to me that following Obama’s speech before a stadium of over 75,000 people in Denver, the Democrats will be energized and confident that they can win not just in Congressional and other elections, but also win the presidency.

Tim Dunlop quotes The Washington Post:

With the weight of history hanging over them, Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Democratic Party formally chose Sen. Barack Obama as the nominee for the White House, elevating the first African American to that exalted post and putting a black man a step from the presidency.

BLOG WRITING August 27, 2008

I write a blog, but principally for my own amusement. You may not be surprised that I have been tossed from listing among select blogrolls, which was pleasing in a way – too much pressure – especially with discerning readers such as yourself. I don’t want to be seen in the company where I would lower the standards.

FOCUS ON WAR August 27, 2008

The focus on war, like the belief in the healing power of violence, and the apparent deeply held belief, now challenged, that governments have the right to murder without regard, is a form of blindness that may destroy the whole of humanity. It is blind because it does not focus on the fundamental global problems before us and their possible solutions.

OLYMPICS August 25, 2008

I am inclined to agree based on the Opening and Closing ceremonies that the Beijing Olympics were spectacular, the venues impressive, the overall organization efficient, and the level of achievement in the individual events and the level of the team events were as good as, or in some cases surpassed, previous games. On that basis the heading on ABC Online that they were “a truly exceptional Olympics” is probably correct as far as it goes.

POWER SHIFT August 25, 2008

Former Prime Minister Keating reviews the state of the world and proclaims that there is a historic shift in power from West to East and that the global political structures are archaic, reflecting the world as it was in 1947. China, Keating says is now a political and economic power, and to a lesser extent the same can be said for India. The clearest mismatch between the realities can be seen in the membership of the UN Security Council.

Vice President has always seemed an unfortunate title, and one wonders even in the Eighteen Century, why they could not have come up with an alternative. Now it seems, subject to confirmation by the Democrat Convention next week, the society of spectacle continues continues on from Beijing to Denver, Senator J Biden will be joining B Obama on the Democratic Party ticket for the presidential election.

Consciousness is less understood than light, but nevertheless perhaps if only in an evolutionary sense, they are connected. Photography is a form of frozen light that means something sometimes to humans but never to dogs.

MOMENT OF TRANSFORMATION August 22, 2008

Millions of people across the globe are now, or so I imagine, will be watching the Olympics, and this will truly be a shared experience. Whether that experience is summarized by the positioning statement is another matter. One World, One Dream indeed. Cynicism, as distinct from questioning, is corrosive. There are times when global consciousness can be changed.

DEMOCRACY VERSUS THE PEOPLE August 21, 2008

The big global stories not reported by the corporate media echo chambers (and their captive accomplices) include the social, economic and political changes occurring in Latin America. Of course, the echo chambers would most likely report events and there significant events in a distorted way. Some happenings, it is true, are mere distraction – and intentionally so.

The most striking thing to me about Georgia is it’s isolation from Europe being surrounded by Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey. Of course it has the sea coast on the Black Sea, but a large part of that is taken by Abkhazia.

THE JOY OF WAR August 17, 2008

There never can be enough war. Some in the United States are now agog, delirious, about the outbreak of military action, so beautifully contrived, in the Caucasus. Murdering people is such fun, and so profitable. Never let anybody worry about the real suffering and heartache this involves for the people who suffer the consequences.
