FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG – SUN AND RAIN July 25, 2008

When skies are grey, or it is raining, and there is a chill in the air our mood tends also to be overcast. Well that is what this weeks photo collection tends to suggest. Dexter looks at times, especially in the rain, positively miserable, and to my surprise the same can be said for Sasha, who tends to like watery environments.

Let me add out of contrition, if not editorial rigour, that there are too many photos again, but I figure I will let you do your individual edit. You can choose to click onto the photos to get the full screen size.

. . .

Dexter gives the impression of enjoyment:

Sasha eyes a more distant prize:

And closes in:

Not bad for a change to be on this log:

The same old place, but we will look around anyway:

Caught by the winter sun:

Distant contemplation :

A group photo at the foot of the hill:

Close-up of Sasha – slightly disheveled:

Dexter assessing the breeze:

Consider the order: Is it sound, smell and sight?

Sasha puts up with the lead:

Dexter huddles as the rain falls:

There have been better times to be here:

So what is the plan now?

We want to get home; time to pose on another day:

As on previous weeks we will seek to join the crew and passengers on Friday Ark.

The story of the barking neighbourhood German Shephard, Jock continues. There has been a new, unfortunate development in the case. Paula, his owner left a message tonight to say that someone had complained to the Council about Jock’s barking putting his future in immediate danger. It turns out that Paula has attributed to us as the people who have reported Jock to the Council – a conclusion that does not make sense to me or my neighbour.

She was I suppose a little emotional, and accused us of being responsible. Luckily, I got to the message first. So what I thought if it is possible to make a complaint, it should also be possible to make a compliment. I rang up the Council and spoke to the Rangers and told them that Jock was not barking, that he was a nice dog, that his owner was distressed with the developments, and that her six year old daughter was particularly fond of him. The person there took my details and said she would add my comments to Jock’s file. Trouble is, just tonight Jock started barking again.

Given the weather and the story around Jock, I thought James Taylor’s song would be appropriate:

Hi Mr. wmmbb,

Thanks for posting the pictures!

I’ve never ever been up a hill nor near a river; so I can only imagine how nice it must be for Sasha and Dexter:)

Calling in to say that Jock’s a nice dog, was a very good gesture on your part. Whether or not Paula appreciates is, is a different matter; but I am sure that Jock appreciates it. I do.

Licks and Wags,

Oorvi

I had not thought that you had not probably do not have too many, if any, places in Delhi. Too many people.

Frankly, I do not know what is happening with Jock, and all he needs is some exercise.

Thanks for commenting and I am pleased you liked the photos.

I find the shorter days of winter combined with the grey of the season often have me feeling a bit low. The one photo of Sasha sitting by herself and looking oh so forlorn seems to say it best. :-) . But lucky for them.. and their live in the moment attitudes… the first ray of sun and warmth will have them smiling.

I am sorry to learn of the continuing sad saga of Jock’s barking woes. How good of you to leave a compliment on his behalf. Your kind heart is showing.

Thank you for your comment Colleen.

We have not been able to get out for the last two days, which is simultaneously good news and bad news. The good news is that we having rain, and we always need that.

One local consequence for us of global warming will be, I suspect, that the scale and intensity of bushfires will increase, as was evident in the wildfires experienced in California. The weather, as well as been the staple of conversation and immediate concern, is a complicated phenomenon. In this case, I really have to follow my words with actions, such as cleaning up the backyard and around the back fence.

The dogs will be happy as soon as the sun returns. I am hoping that Jock is getting some time out. I am not sure that beneficial consequences necessarily follow , but my belief is that empathy and compassion should be developed, because they are among the most, if not the most, important sources of motivation for actions.
