An Indian cricket player calls an Australian player, “a big monkey”. Australian cricketers start crying. The Indian player is accused of racism. That is a nice twist. Australian cricketers these days are such gentle dears. It is not what I remember, when I went on a few occasions to the cricket at the WACA, and I was a mere spectator some distance away from the action. I do not understand with that background how Australian cricket players, especially, could be offended by any comment. I suspect they are being self righteous.

As far as I can tell our major-general, Governor-General was calling for sportsmanship over sledging. And he did make a valid point when he said that the way the Test Team plays and deports themselves has an impression on people overseas, particularly India. On this point opinions differ. Annabel Crabb thinks it might be the last opportunity to make some runs before retirement. The Australian Captain begs to differ, and I suppose he would be asked and he is painted into a corner given his role, as I understand it, in the whole sorry saga.

I have to say that I too find the Australian cricketers to “boorish” and I do not have time for them, or their silly game, no matter their level of skill or success. There are too many other, more important things for me to be attending to.

The cricketers could always watch Monkey Business, and here is an excerpt:
